Summary of Job Duties

The Orthopedic Technician assists physicians in the application and management of casts and braces, provides instruction and assistance to resident physicians in cast, splint, and brace application, gives instruction on proper care of casts, braces, etc to patients. Also provides instructions to rotating medical students, and assists with orders and maintains an adequate stock of orthopedic supplies.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma, GED PLUS One (1) year direct patient care experience or enrollment in a healthcare related educational program (Medical Assistant, Nursing School or Med School).

Preferred Qualifications

Orthopedic tech experience or Medical Assistant Certification

Provides professional and competent assistance to physicians with the application and management of casts for orthopedic patientsEducates patients regarding casts, splints, or braces following applicationCollects and records patients' medical history and acquires patient vital signs. Advises patients regarding treatment, medication, and specific physician instructionsCollects lab samples and completes documentation for submission to labMonitors inventory of and obtains necessary supplies and/or equipment for patient care in orthopedic unitPerforms other duties as assigned
