Position Summary

As the full-time Senior Payroll Specialist, you will independently work to execute payroll processing for the US and at least 4 non-US countries, using our third-party payroll vendor and local in-country partners. You will seek to continuously improve our processes and employee engagement. You will report to the Manager, Global Payroll, and work closely with HR, Legal, Accounting, Controller, external accounting firm, in-country payroll partners as well as employees and managers.
Work Model
Flex: This role will typically require onsite work 2-3 days each week, or more depending on business needs. In many locations, the business will set certain days each week that Flex employees are required to be onsite.
Responsibilities
Independently manage payroll vendor and in-country partners in US and 4+ countries in the EU and APAC regionsResponsible for compiling, reviewing, and timely submission of payroll to our third-party payroll partner for your regionsResponsible for implementing new payroll setup for new jurisdictionsResponsible for setting up new tax jurisdictions in your regions: US, EU & APACPartner with internal and external legal teams regarding labor regulations and opinionsResponsible for & respond to audits performed by local statutory agencies, internal auditors & EY (external auditors)Partner with in-country partners and our accounting firm for month/quarter end close reporting for local booksCreate and submit journal entries and reconcile general ledger account for Ultragenyx financialsPresent accounting details during monthly close meetingsResponsible for coordinating all statutory payments with Accounts Payable, our accounting firm or the in-country providerCreate and maintain labor cost analysisRecommend policy and procedure changes towards continuous improvement and complianceResponsible for new concept and GL account setup with payroll vendorManage ticketing system for your region and assist with managing Payroll mailboxResponsible for managing vacation use, accruals, and timely vacation paymentsResolve payroll and tax issues quickly, efficiently and with a high degree of customer service; escalating or redirecting if neededProcess daily stock payroll: NQ, RSU & disqualifying dispositionsEnsure SOX complianceCompletely understand the UltiPro payroll system and configuration
Requirements
A degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Management, Human Resources or equivalent preferred5+ years progressive experience in US payrollGood knowledge of employment and labor lawsUnderstanding of tax regulations of more than one countryMicrosoft Office Suite; Particularly Excel skills: formulas, pivot tables, V-look up,Expertise in liaising and working closely with other HR areas and FinanceEffective analytical and problem-solving skillsKnowledge of basic accounting procedures and principlesFlexibility to adapt to a fast-evolving environmentExcellent customer service and team support experienceExperience with a major HCM system required; Prior Ultimate Software experience is a plusWiling to learn and expand knowledge
