23 Hour RN - PRN

New Mexico Surgery Center - Orthopaedics, located at: 8300 Constitution Ave NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110:

Performs nursing care for the patient in the 23 hour extended care area following the immediate postoperative/post-anesthesia period, assessing and documenting patient’s status upon arrival and throughout stay until discharge.

Provides nursing care to meet patient needs related to surgical condition and type of anesthesia administered, monitoring patient and informing surgeon of observed complications.

The 23 Hour Extended Stay Care Unit’s Scope of Service may include, but is not limited to care for conditions or patient needs such as:

Pain control Hypotension (not requiring pressor agents) Control of nausea and vomiting Extended IV therapy Hypertension (not requiring IV drips or other medications not approved for administration in the ASC setting for control) Observation for potential bleeding Prolonged anesthesia time, when it is prudent to provide additional monitoring.

Required Skills

Effectively organizes time, equipment, supplies, and personnel for efficient management of the patient Organizes nursing activities efficiently, considering staff abilities when delegating activities Uses equipment effectively by anticipating patient needs and providing appropriate care Confirms that proper techniques and procedures are used according to accepted standards of practice Assists in managing inventory of supplies, drugs, and equipment to maintain availability and stock levels in the extended care area Maintains order and cleanliness of care area Performs safe and individualized nursing care for the patient in the extended care area Assesses and documents the patient’s physical and emotional status upon arrival from the recovery room Documents care during the patient’s time in the extended care area Provides nursing care to meet patient needs related to surgical condition and type of anesthesia administered Monitors patients and informs surgeon of observed complications Performs thorough postoperative patient assessment prior to discharge of the patient Assists in assessing the physical and emotional status of the patient in preparation for discharge Develops a plan of care for the patient based on the assessment data Confirms understanding of and reiterates postoperative instructions and prescriptions from the surgeon with patient and significant other/family member and documents in the patient’s medical record Informs patient and family about appropriate care and procedure to follow upon returning home Determines that patient and significant other/family member understand conditions that require immediate care/method to obtain immediate care Provides comfort and reassurance to the patient while promoting privacy and dignity Maintains a safe care area of staff and patients regarding a locked unit during overnight care concerning the following of policies and procedures

Required Experience

Graduate of an approved school of nursing.

Currently licensed in the state.

BLS and ACLS certification required.
