Definition of Class
This position provides computer technical support for computer systems within a department. The incumbent is responsible for providing basic troubleshooting and maintenance of computers, their peripherals, network services, and backup, as well as, maintenance, installation and configuration of equipment. Incumbent works under general supervision.
Examples of Work Performed
Maintains department computer systems, hardware and software, and trouble-shoots problems. Restores operating systems and software following hardware failures. Installs and maintains peripherals and their configuration. Provides basic system administration and file maintenance.Backs up system files on a systematic basis, ensures proper operation, restores last files and file systems, and maintains an archive.Maintains, identifies, and corrects problems with the Local Area Network (LAN) including ensuring proper condition of physical wiring, network file system (NFS) disks, updates host tables; monitors network load and adjust traffic as necessary; monitors and provides accounting of printers.Ensures proper working condition of the departmental e-mail system, maintains file sharing and transfer services, and researches new systems for network-based productivity including commercial software, shareware, and freeware.Delivers, installs, and configures peripherals: makes physical connections, ensures compatibility of components, configures software and hardware, tests for proper operation verification, and provides routine maintenance.Delivers, installs, and configures software: researches and locates useful software packages, ensures compatibility and usability with existing equipment; installs, configures, and tests to assure proper performance.Performs routine security checks by reviewing daily activity reports; sets software to detect infringements or attacks to network services; stays abreast of current security developments.Performs similar or related duties as assigned or required.Ensures all assigned tasks are in compliance with University, SEC Conference, and NCAA rules.
Essential Functions

Maintains department computer hardware, software and databases.Provides basic troubleshooting and maintenance of computers, peripherals, network services and backup systems.Delivers, installs, and configures peripherals, network connectivity, and software.Performs routine security checks.
Education
Minimum Education/Experience
Graduation from a standard four-year high school or equivalent (GED).
AND
Experience
Two (2) years of experience related to the above described duties.
OR
Education
Two years of college or university course study in a Science or Technical Field.
Substitution Statement
Related experience may be substituted for education, on a basis set forth and approved by the Department of Human Resources.
