📋 Role Overview & Responsibilities
Two postdoctoral associate positions funded by NIH grants are available in the Yao Laboratory (https://health.usf.edu/medicine/labs/yao-lab) at the Department of Molecular Pharmacology and Physiology, Morsani College of Medicine, University of South Florida. The Yao Laboratory is interested in understanding how laminin, a major component of the basal lamina, regulates blood-brain barrier (BBB) integrity under both physiological and pathological conditions. Stroke and Alzheimer’s disease (AD) are used as disease models to study laminin’s functions in pathological conditions. Specifically, the candidates will: (1) investigate laminin turnover in the CNS in a cell-specific manner using innovative laminin reporter mouse lines; (2) explore the function of laminin in brain development and BBB maintenance under physiological conditions using cell-specific laminin conditional knockout mouse lines; (3) study how laminin affects the pathogenesis and progression of stroke and AD using these conditional knockout mice; and (4) develop innovative therapeutics for stroke and AD by targeting laminin and/or its downstream signaling molecules.
The candidates will have opportunities to collaborate with others and mentor undergraduate and graduate students. The candidates will be expected to write manuscripts for publications and present research progress in scientific meetings. The candidates will also be encouraged to apply for fellowships and grants. Salary will be commensurate with experience in accordance with NIH guidelines. Requirements for this position include PhD in Neuroscience or related biomedical area, good publication record, high motivation for research, excellent work ethics, and strong communication skills & scientific writing ability. Research experience in rodent stroke & AD models, vascular biology, neurobiology, RNAseq analysis, primary cell culture, confocal imaging, and molecular biology are preferred.
