Role DescriptionThe Complex Systems Monitoring Optimization and Stability Laboratory, or COSMOS lab for short, is an applied AI lab at the University of Tennessee. We work on cutting-edge research in areas such as Homeland Security, Autonomous Vehicles, Transportation, and Manufacturing.
This is an NSF REU internship program (research experience for undergraduates). Unlike typical REUs, this promises to be highly applied, giving you a chance to build real-world AI products for Security applications based on our years of research.

We are 5 years into this ambitious project and have developed multiple algorithmic breakthroughs. We are now trying to spin this off into a startup and are trying to productize our technological innovation into a usable product, designed to improve security responses and mitigate active-shooter scenarios - a multi-billion dollar market.

Qualifications:U.S. citizen/LPR registered in an undergraduate program.Strong background in Computer Science and Software DevelopmentExperience with App, API, or GUI DevelopmentKnowledge about SQL, DBMS, MapReduce, Cloud & DevOps are a plusProficiency in programming languages (Python, C, C++)Knowledge of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) conceptsAbility to work independently and in a team. High agency is expectedExcellent problem-solving and analytical skillsGood communication and interpersonal skills
