Job Summary

Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt is a nationally recognized provider of pediatric health care services. U.S. News & World Report has ranked us the No. 1 children's hospital in Tennessee and ranked nationally in 10 out of 10 pediatric specialties. From broken bones to the most complex orthopedic conditions, the Pediatric Orthopaedics program at Monroe Carell offers the region's most advanced care in a family-friendly environment. We treat a wide range of pediatric problems, including complex fractures; sports injuries; deformities of the spine, bones, hips or feet; scoliosis; and infections of the musculoskeletal system.

The Pediatric Orthopaedics team is seeking to add an Ortho Tech to help serve our patients at the Children's hospital. This role will assists orthopaedic providers and residents in the provision of safe and effective treatment of orthopaedic injuries with occasional guidance. This is an exciting opportunity that offers the chance to circulate to the OR and provide surrounding clinic coverage. This is a full-time weekday position with flexibility to work 4/10 hr shifts or a Mon-Fri schedule. No weekends or afterhours required.

Key Responsibilities

Assists orthopaedic surgeons and residents with preventing or correcting disorders of the locomotor structures of the body. Monitors cast room area and equipment. Instructs patients/families on cast/splint care. The responsibilities listed are a general overview of the position and additional duties may be assigned. Helps organize and distribute inventory of medical supplies for the Orthopaedic ClinicApplication and removal of all cast, splints and immobilization devices. Suture and staple removals.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED equivalentMinimum of 2 years of experience in patient care or customer service Must enjoy working with children and their familiesMust be self-motivated with exceptional customer service skillsStrong ability to maintain composure when confronted with fast paced and stressful situationsNo license or certification requiredOrthopedic casting experience is a plus but not required Working knowledge of operating room environment is a plus but not required

Technical Capabilities

Orthopaedics (Fundamental Awareness): Has limited experience, training, direct exposure, or past experience working with Orthopaedics. Cast Application & Removal (Novice): Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate cast application and removal in practical applications of moderate difficulty. Inventory Management (Novice): Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate Inventory Management skills in practical applications of moderate difficulty. Demonstrates basic expertise with Inventory Management tools, procedures and processes. Monitors material moved into and out of stockroom locations and reconciles inventory balances. Works with electronic catalogs. the need for good customer relations. Asks questions to identify customer's needs or expectations. Understands the need to provide ongoing dialogue with and service support to the organization's customers. Understands the distinction between direct customer and ultimate consumer.
