Wake Veterinary Medical Center has a current opening for full-time, experienced ER Veterinary Assistants/Technician to join our fast-paced emergency department.

These are 12 hour day shifts.

Job Description

Follow prescribed patient treatments, which include various technical procedures such as intravenous catheter placement for both short and long-term vein access, venipuncture, IV injections, wound management, drug administration (IV, oral, subcutaneous), bandage care, blood transfusion administration, emergency intervention, ECG monitoring, and various another routine diagnostic testing's.

Must Demonstrate The Ability To

Understand hospital treatment plans and present them in a clear manner to clients. Provide quick and accurate information regarding each patient and be proficient in entering data into the electronic medical record.Work effectively as a member of a team and be an active participant in problem-solving.Work effectively with computers and multiple software platforms – EzyVet experience preferred.Work independently and practice good judgment to ensure high-quality care for all patients, and request assistance when needed.

Essential Job Functions

Provide nursing care for critically ill hospitalized patients in conjunction with specialty and emergency veterinarians.Participate in nurse roundsTriage incoming patients presenting on emergencyAssess patient stability and obtain patient vital signsPerform diagnostics, including in-hours laboratory testing and digital radiography, and treatments of emergency and hospitalized patientsPerform hourly patient assessment and monitoringObserve patients and recognize changes in statusPlace peripheral and central cathetersPerform venipunctureRestrain patients for exams and treatmentsSet up and administer IV and SQ fluidsPerform client communication and education including patient dischargesMaintain urinary cathetersBandage removal and applicationPerform suture and drain removalPerform drug dose calculations for injectable medications and CRIsAdminister injectable medications (IV, IM, SQ)Administer other medications (PO, OU, OD)Maintain isolation protocols for infectious patientsBasic wound cleaning and carePrep patients for anesthetized proceduresPrep equipment and supplies for anesthetized proceduresAdminister injectable and inhalant anesthesiaMonitor patients while under anesthesia and maintain a monitoring logInterpret vital readings during anesthesiaMonitor patients during recovery from anesthesiaAssist in CPCR
