Art Teacher

Waldron Mercy Academy (WMA) is seeking a passionate and dedicated Art Teacher to join our dynamic team. As an integral part of our Visual Arts Program, the Art Teacher will not only instruct students (grades 1-8) in the production of art but also foster an appreciation for various art forms, cultures, and historical contexts. The position is full time with an expected start date of 8/26/24.

Responsibilities:Develop and implement a comprehensive art curriculum tailored to students from 1st Grade through 8th Grade, aligned with the mission and values of Waldron Mercy Academy.Integrate themes inspired by works of art, artists, culture and art history into the art curriculum, providing students with a diverse and enriching artistic experience.Teach fundamental art techniques and skills across various mediums including drawing, painting, sculpture, textiles, printing and mixed media.Cultivate a supportive and inclusive learning environment where students feel encouraged to explore their creativity, take risks, and learn from their mistakes.Foster visual literacy by teaching students to analyze and interpret artworks, understand artistic concepts, and appreciate cultural and historical contexts.Encourage students to develop their own artistic voice and style, while also promoting collaboration and peer feedback within the classroom.Organize and oversee art displayed throughout the school.Select and frame one exemplary work of art from each grade level to be displayed in the school's permanent art collection, contributing to the vibrant artistic culture at Waldron Mercy Academy.Collaborate with colleagues across disciplines to integrate art into other areas of the curriculum, fostering interdisciplinary connections and creative expression.Stay current with trends and developments in art education, participating in professional development opportunities and incorporating innovative teaching strategies into the classroom.

Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, or related fieldValid teaching certification Previous experience teaching art to elementary and middle school students, preferably in a multicultural and diverse educational settingStrong understanding of art history, cultural diversity, and global perspectives in art.Proficiency in a variety of art mediums and techniques, with the ability to teach fundamental skills across different age groups and skill levels.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, colleagues, and parents.Passion for fostering creativity, critical thinking, and self-expression through the visual arts.Commitment to the values of Waldron Mercy Academy, including a dedication to academic excellence, social justice, and holistic student development.
