Nuclear Safety Engineer

Job Responsibilities/DutiesWashington River Protection Solutions (WRPS) is the tank farm operating contractor at the Hanford Site located in Richland, WA. The WRPS mission is to safely store, retrieve, and treat 56 million gallons of legacy radioactive and hazardous waste. This complex mission spans all competencies of engineering/science accomplished through a highly integrated organization engineering organization. Engineering at WRPS consists of process engineering, design engineering, nuclear safety, plant/system engineering, construction project engineering, procurement engineering, process and control system engineering, engineering standards/program implementation, and the Chief Technology Office. These areas support all areas of the tank farm mission including Retrievals, Production Operations, Field Projects, Waste Feed Delivery Projects, and long-term innovations.

The Nuclear Safety Engineer responsibilities are

Participates in hazard analysis and control selection.Supports development of consequence analysis and frequency determination.Maintains qualification as a Nuclear Safety Engineer and USQ evaluator.Understands the Documented Safety Analysis (DSA) and Technical Safety Requirement (TSR) format and content requirements of 10 CFR 830, Subpart B, DOE-STD-3009, and DOE-STD-1186 and DOE-STD-1189.Understands how the hazard analysis is used in developing the DSA.Understand and apply the hierarchy of controls.Develop and maintain assigned procedures for process hazard analysis, DSA development and maintenance, and USQ process.Identify hazard analysis, DSA development and maintenance, and USQ process weaknesses and lead the development of program improvements.Develop technical basis documents (hazardous event, consequence analysis)..Perform hazard evaluation and DSA review in support of proposed changes and process negative USQ for proposed changes.Understand what proposed changes require USQ review.Understand the Potential Inadequacy in the Safety Analysis process requirements.

Required QualificationsGrade 16:Bachelor's Degree (BS) in Engineering or related technical disciplineTwo (2) years related experience

Grade 17:Bachelor's Degree (BS) in Engineering or related technical disciplineFive (5) years related experience***Note the essential duties for this grade level are like that of the previous grade level, however the scope of responsibility is larger, and the expected level of performance is increased.

Grade 18:Bachelor's Degree (BS) in Engineering or related technical disciplineSeven (7) years related experience***Note the essential duties for this grade level are like that of the previous grade level, however the scope of responsibility is significantly larger, and the expected level of performance is greatly increased.

Desired QualificationsKnowledge of the hazard analysis process, DSA and TSR development processes (DOE Std 3009, 1186,1189), and the USQ processTank Farm knowledge and experience.

In accordance with the company's philosophy on compensation for exempt and salaried non-exempt employees, WRPS takes into consideration a variety of factors when determining initial salary to include assigned job scope and responsibility, a candidate's qualifications as compared to internal comparators performing in a similar role, and the external labor market.
