Position Overview

WSS is looking for a Distribution Supervisor to oversee our Houston DC. This person will provide on-shift leadership for distribution center teams working in a wide variety of distribution center activities related to unloading, sorting, separating, and receiving and put-away of in-bound goods, replenishment, picking of store orders, processing returns, loading of trucks, inventory controls and quality auditing. Inspires and motivates employees to meet performance expectations and to be highly engaged in the business. Successful performance in this role is a gateway to future positions of increased responsibility in the Distribution Center and career growth as a supply chain/logistics professional.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (May include but not limited to the following) Assist in training of new Distribution Center employees assigned to the function being supervisedPlanning work schedules for employees to insure adequate staffing is available for critical business needsAssigning work to team members on a daily basis in the most efficient waysAssuring shift teams are equipped with necessary supplies and equipmentMonitoring work performance of individuals in their area for productivity, quality, safety, procedural compliance and giving appropriate reinforcing or adjusting feedbackMonitoring floor operations by walking around, observing workflow, adherence to SOP’s, housekeeping, safety and takes appropriate follow up action or escalates as appropriate.Solves problems and makes operating decisions during shift operations to maintain smooth workflow and to insure completion of order fulfillment and goods processingCoaching and developing of individuals to achieve top performance on their key metricsCompletes shift summary reports and reconciles problem areas on a timely basis.Establishes and maintains high standards of safety, housekeeping and orderlinessEscalates issues and problems on a timely basis to management that require additional resources or helpIdentifies opportunities for continuous process improvement in the operation to reduce cost, reduce cycle time and improve service and quality and mobilizes resources to fully implement changesRegularly communicates information about the WSS business and Distribution Center priorities and direction to their teamsCommunicate issues and needs across shifts and across department lines; actively participates in cross-shift exchangesCommunicate and reinforce company policies and standardsParticipates and actively contributes in MDI meetings, leadership team meetingsMaintains a healthy, respectful, positive work environment

Experience & Skills:High School diploma or equivalent is required; College strongly preferred. Ability to read, write and speak English fluently is required; the ability to speak Spanish is an asset but not a requirement.At least 2 years of supervisory or lead / coordinator experience leading teams of 10 or more people or experience of equivalent leadership complexity.Ideally 2-3 years of experience in distribution center operations Warehouse / Distribution Center operations concepts of inventory controls, product movementBasic knowledge of Warehouse Management SystemsStrong PC skills - Excel, Word, Outlook or equivalent e-mail program. Ability to work with spreadsheets is critical.
